This is called “Garbage Bread” but it tastes like pure gold!

Ingredients:

ground beef (one pound), mozzarella (one cup), and cheddar (half a cup).

onion, diced (half a cup)

minced garlic (two cloves)

bell peppers, sliced — half a cup

  • 1/2 cup of black olives, sliced (if desired)
  • Olive oil, measuring 1 tablespoon

Preparation:

olive oil – Salt and pepper to taste – One egg (to make the egg wash)

How to Follow

First things first: get the oven hot, around 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).

Second, sauté the onions in olive oil over medium-high heat in a pan until they begin to become translucent. You can’t escape that aroma, I swear!

  1. Brown the ground beef by adding it and breaking it up with a spoon. Along with the minced garlic cloves, add a pinch of salt and pepper.
  2. Add the bell peppers and, if using, black olives. Then, sprinkle with the Italian spice. After a few more minutes of stirring, everything should be nice and cozy in the pan.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle that is approximately 10 by 14 inches. This will help keep it from sticking. Rustic is excellent for the soul; we aren’t seeking perfection.

Sixth, top the dough with the ground beef mixture, being sure to leave a little border around the sides. Cheese is the binding agent that keeps life’s wonderful things together, so top with some mozzarella and cheddar.

  1. Carefully shape the dough into a jelly roll by beginning with the longest side and pinching the ends together. Seam side down, transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet to facilitate cleaning.
  2. Cut a few holes at the top of the bread to let steam out; this will give the Garbage Bread some breathing space.
  3. For that irresistible golden shine, beat an egg and brush it over the top. Believe me when I say it matters.
  4. Place in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bread turns a gorgeous golden color and has a somewhat hollow sound when tapped. Dinner is calling, and that’s the music.
  5. Set aside for a little while to relax. Before serving heated, cut it into slices. Seeing your loved ones jump in is the greatest feeling in the world.
